From Amazon.com Originally released in 1971, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory was an imaginative film that drew as much inspiration from the leftover vibes (and drugs) of the psychedelic '60s as it did from Roald Dahl's fanciful children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If you doubt it, check out this special 25th anniversary edition of the original soundtrack album, which features lyrics and music by Anthony Newley, who was a major influence on David Bowie and whose work on this film has clearly inspired '90s rockers from Veruca Salt (who took their name from the spoiled rich girl) to the Butthole Surfers (who could easily cover the sinister, trippy "Wondrous Boat Ride". C'mon, everybody, let's sing: "Oompa loompa/Doomp-ity-do/I've got another lesson for you...." --Jim Derogatis

| Customer Reviews: The whole film in cutdown time. February 27, 2010 Air Raid Patrol (UK) I have always enjoyed the film version of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory ever since I was a small child. The stiry was the main draw but the soundtrack and songs are also very good. This collection has all the songs and a few instrumentals as well that come in at important parts of the film.
If you know the film well then you can easily recognise what is going on with the story by the music, and the story is told through the music (in a way). In the most part the tracks could be extracts from the film as there are cast voices during the pieces. This, to me, adds to the charm of the collection.

I think this is one of my favourite films of all time. The music in itself is amazing. "Cheer up Charlie" is such a beautiful song! I love it!I recommend this film a million times over!!

This album is for someone who absolutely adores the film. In all honesty, I only bought this because I like the film and the price was excellent. I am not a hardcore fan of the movie, but I am a big musical fan. My favourite song is "Cheer Up Charlie" with beautiful lyrics and a very "sing a long" song! The only downside I have to this cd is the talking there is before/between/after some of the songs. The candyman song has all the kids asking about willy wonka before the candy man begins to sing. It gets quite irritating after a while. This is why I have given it 4 stars rather than 5. Otherwise a good cd, and you cant go wrong at that price.
