Millionaire earns Rahman gold January 13, 2009 Mr. C. Patmore 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
When it comes to Indian film music it is hard to beat A R Rahman to the beats. His compositions are easy for the western ear to appreciate as he brings in not only traditional and contemporary Indian melodies and rhythms, but also mixes them up with beats and instruments of modern Western music. He is so prolific and original in his composing that he is known as the Mozart of Madras in his homeland, and now, thanks to Danny Boyle's fantastic new film, Rahman's music is reaching a much wider audience, especially now he has won a Golden Globe for Best Score/Soundtrack. The music fits the film so perfectly, but also stands as music worth listening in its own right. And let's not forget that London's MIA also features on this album too. If you want to get a true flavour of Indian fusion music then this is a great place to start. And if you find you like the Rahman's sound then also check out the soundtrack for Taal - although there are plenty more he has done.
Awesome! February 1, 2009 Jahanzeb Farooq (Denmark) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
I am so happy that finally one of world's best music composers gets his due in the west. With Slumdog Millionaire the legendary A.R.Rahman as always has given an utterly awesome and mindblowing album. The album is kind of an ambassador of Indian/Eastern music. Though for the western audience the sound is totally new, this is only one of nearly one hundred albums A.R.Rahman has given in his 16 years career. From overwhelming "O Saya" to vibrant "Jai Ho", every song is a gem in itself. The masterpiece work in "Mausam and Escape" and "Liquid Dance" gives a glimpse of immense talent the maestro got. The score is getting its due and A.R.Rahman has already won the prestigious Golden Globe award for it under the Best Original Score category. It has now been nominated for Oscars both in Best Original Score as well as double nominations under Best Original Song category (Jai Ho and O Saya..). M.I.A's Paper Planes comes as a bonus.
Cool !!!! February 9, 2009 AKM (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
A great soundtrack. Like all good music it needs to be played at a high volume. Very emotive.
Exhilarating, vibrant and tender February 22, 2009 C. E. Foxwell 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
A perfect way to recall all the emotions evoked by the film. This soundtrack buzzes with life, taking you through trepidation, adrenaline-fuelled optimism and tender romance. A.R. Rahman is a sensational composer and his co-artists on this album bring their unique skills to great effect (M.I.A. in particular just blew me away).
