| Customer Reviews: Fantastic soundtrack- one of my favourites August 19, 2010 Sam (South England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
the original broadway recording of this show has become one of my favourite soundtracks and is probably one of the most listened to on the ipod, so I was very excited when I heard they planned to release the london recording as well but at the same time wasn't sure what to expect. Laura Bell Bundy had done such a fantastic job playing Elle Woods that I found it difficult to imagine that I would enjoy someone else stepping into her shoes. Not only this but Laura Bell has an incredible voice and the Legally Blonde score is no easy feat to conquer so I was again unsure as to whether Sheridan Smith would be able to match the vocal standard that Laura Bell had set.
I wasn't at all disappointed. Sheridan Smith is fantastic in the role of Elle and her vocals are amazing. Her voice is very different to that of Laura Bell which I personally love- Sheridan's voice has an amazing tone to it and her voice carries a weight that adds a warmth to the vocals that I haven't heard very often. Again, Sheridan has easily been able to match Laura Bell Bundy's ability to act incredibly through song- for instance there's the bright and bubbly excitement and confidence that just builds and builds through "So Much Better" and yet in contrast there's the complete defeat evident throughout the title song "Legally Blonde"
Love love love this soundtrack if you're a fan of the OBC and not sure whether to buy this DO IT you won't be disappointed.
If you're a new comer to the musical then definitely buy this album the score is captivating and thoroughly enjoyable. Personal favourites from the soundtrack are So Much Better Legally Blonde and positive.

This is fab almost like seeing the show again and again! It's great to play full blast in your car.
Great recording from the London Cast of Legally Blonde September 3, 2010 Ms. C. P. Moffat (Southampton) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this recording of the original London cast of Legally Blonde. Having seen it live, it's a great reminder of how brilliant the show is. It's nice to have a recording of the show that isn't a studio recording, it's nice to hear the cheers of the audience. This recording is a great sample of what the show is like 8 shows a week.
Sheridan Smith as Elle is fantastic. Her voice is amazing, and I really love Sheridan's take on the role. Jill Halfpenny as Paulette is great- although she's not vocally strong she brings the character to life.
I'd recommend it to fans of the show and also those who want to see if they'd enjoy the show.
ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL! August 16, 2010 Blake Rettenhold (UK) I've already reviewed the music itself on the Original Broadway Recording, so in this review I am merely aiming to compare this recording with the original. Firstly, this version, although recorded live, is a much better quality recording than the Broadway recording, which I often found to sound a little tinny on the vocals. Here, the sound is brilliant, and the orchestra especially sounds absolutely incredible. Also, the raw Live element and the sounds of audiences cheering and laughing at funny bits really do add to the recording. I thought the audience sounds would get on my nerves, but they really do help to recreate the buzz of the performance that the Broadway recording does not. This recording certainly isn't as polished as the Broadway version, but it sounds 20 times as good, and really does have that raw energy.
Sheridan Smith steals the show as Elle, although the big belting doesn't come quite as easily as it did to Laura Bell Bundy. However, Sheridan's voice has a weight and a charm that wasn't present in the original recording, making a sensational sound on the lead vocals. Jill Halfpenny also shines in this way as Paulette - although she hasn't quite got the vocals of Broadway's Orfeh, she really brings the character to life in a way that wasn't achieved by Orfeh. On that note, the new lyrics to Ireland and certain other songs are fantastic, and make the show even funnier than before and tighten those lyrics that weren't quite right in the original production.
Unfortunately there is only one thing that lets the recording down, and that has to be Caroline Keiff as Vivienne. Although Caroline settles into the role marvellously as an actress, her vocals simply aren't up to it. She attempts to sing in the original key which is far higher than her voice comfortably sits, especially during the Legally Blonde Remix, where her voice, although not out of tune, somehow seems as if she is trying to do an impression of a five year that's trying to sing in the style of Celine Dion after having local anaesthetic injected into her mouth, but if that voice appeals to you then you'll have no problem!
So why only Four Stars? Well, unfortunately there are some technical flaws. The biggest being in Take It Like A Man, where there is a jump in the audio halfway through the word "Prepare". It's only slight, but as a professional soundtrack, this recording should have been completely flawless, and it isn't. But don't worry - most people probably won't even notice it - however, once you've picked up the imperfections once, you'll hear them every single time you listen to the soundtrack. Seriously, though - DO NOT let it put you off.
It's not enough to take away any magic from this recording - a truly brilliant soundtrack that anyone who liked the show will absolutely love! You thought the Broadway recording was good? Think again - here comes Legally Blonde London!
